GENEVA : CINEMA AND TELEVISION INTERNATIONAL MEETING POINT

A unique Festival with an international notoriety

Cinéma Tout Ecran presents on big screen what has been produced for the small ones. It has this way opened a window on a field bustling with creativity which changes the boundaries between cinema and television, where the main points are the quality of the work and the singularity of the director.

Cinéma Tout Ecran is a festival looking for new films and new authors. Above all, it looks towards artistic quality of works made for television or cinema, the representation of the real through fiction and technological advances.

Cinéma Tout Ecran has therefore presented and awarded the following major works during its previous editions: Atom Egoyan’s Gross Misconduct, Robert Guédiguian’s Marius et Jeannette, Michael Apted’s Always Outnumbered, Peter Kosminsky’s No Child of Mine, Arturo Ripstein’s Asi es la vida, Catherine Breillat’s Brève Traversée.

Foreword by Leo Kaneman
Artistic director of the Festival

Cinéma Tout Ecran (CTE) confirms its singularity by focusing on the films and their artistic qualities and disregarding the cinema-television frontier. With the International series competition, CTE also asserts its state-of-the-art position. Producers, television channels and the public all grow more and more enthusiastic about this genre. The fans are changing as those who used to confess their interest for television series reluctantly now loudly assert the creative qualities of this specific format. The cinema lovers may soon be superseded by series aficionados who consider that series are now the spearhead of audiovisual creation. The globalization process of the format progresses with Switzerland’s hailed entry in the international league (with Nos archives secrètes).

Benefiting from Europe’s recognition through the support of the MEDIA program, Cinéma Tout Ecran is ideally placed to promote and to become the figurehead of the Swiss cinema. The Festival is an excellent place to exchange and mix, and gives an ideal opportunity for the work of the directors to be presented to professionals coming from all over the world.

For CTE has more than one advantage: a close collaboration with international channels; sections that give the Swiss works many possibilities to be broadcast in Switzerland, in Europe and throughout the world; the Geneva Select Market where Swiss film makers and producers have the opportunity to meet with other professionals and which purpose is to help Swiss films to be exported. Work in Progress has the same objective but mediates earlier on, stimulating international producers to invest and co-produce the films.

“Restore the image of the Swiss cinema abroad”, as says the objective of the Federal Office for Culture, is actually a good idea, but it has to be implemented. Cinéma Tout Ecran is now a both outstanding and indisputable tool to help the Swiss cinema flourish. But the Festival does need support to be able to pursue and extend its mission.
