Poème crépusculaire, "Délivrance" est un film quasi muet, où Ray, une fois de plus, dénonce le système des castes, les rituels, la superstition et, accessoirement, les mariages d'enfants. Il dénonce surtout l'égoïsme des nantis et, dans un final qui ressemble à une farce tragique, l'inhumanité et la stupidité d'un homme qui a pu en tuer un autre mais ne touchera jamais, fût-ce du bout du doigt, le corps d'un intouchable...

A twilight poem, "Délivrance" is a nearly silent film where Ray, once more, denounces the caste system, rituals, superstition and also child marriages. Above all, he denounces the egoism of the wealthy and in an ending which is like a tragic farce, the inhumanity and the stupidity of a man who could have killed another but will never touch, not even with the end of his finger, the body of an Untouchable ...
