Nous sommes dans les années trente, en Allemagne, juste après la prise du pouvoir par les nazis. Un jeune professeur de lycée, Pabst, est confronté à la montée du racisme et de l'intolérance chez ses jeunes élèves. Au cours d'un camp de vacances qui s'apparente à un apprentissage militaire, l'un de ses élèves est assassiné. Un procès s'ensuit. La déposition de Pabst lui vaut l'opprobre de la communauté et lui fera perdre son poste.

It's in the 1930's in Germany, just after the Nazis have come to power. A young high-school teacher, Pabst, is confronted with the rising racism and intolerance of his young students. During a vacation camp more like a military camp, one of his young students is murdered. A trial follows. Pabst's testimony earns him the opprobrium of the community and causes him to lose his job.
